Hey, I'm Cass, the founder podcast production agency, good chat media and welcome to Good chats. Good chat is a podcast with a holistic approach to business and marketing. And with the help of some super special people, I'll be spilling all the secrets about boosting your brand, building credibility and connecting with community through podcasting. Let's get into the episode.

Hello, it is Cass, Welcome back to the Good Chat's podcast. I am going to tell you, in this episode, How To Start A Podcast. Now this is not launch tips. This is how to start the podcast. If you want to know any launch tips, please let me know that today I'm telling you how to get started the basics, the things we actually need. And you know what one of the most important questions is Cass, what kind of equipment do I use, I'm here to tell you.

So as you know, podcasts are a very special medium for connection. And there are so many benefits for business owners. In starting a podcast, you build personal connections with the people you're talking to. Right now it feels like you and me in a room. And I'm just sitting here by myself. And I'm thinking you're sitting there by yourself too. But like I, I'm in your ears. So hey, establish credibility, which is super important for your business, it helps to position yourself as a leader in your industry, podcasts are highly engaging. And it also allows your audience to be doing other things while enjoying your content. I want to know what you're doing right now while you're listening to this. So also tell me that as well like jump over to Instagram and be like, Hey, Cass, I was walking my dog when I listened to your podcast, I want to know, but a lot of content, you can't really multitask. Unless it's like sitting on a couch watching TV plus, looking on your Instagram feed or your LinkedIn feed, you can do that. But it's like you've got to focus on one thing or the other podcasts, you can do anything, your audience can be doing anything while you're listening. You can be walking the dog making a coffee, cooking dinner, going to the park with the kids driving to work at the gym, on a hot girl walk like anything. My favourite is to listen to in the car, because I listen to podcasts a lot. Listening in the car is a treat, I listen to either audible or podcasts. So either way, you can multitask while you do it.

And I love that it is huge for brand awareness and personal branding. So it doesn't actually matter what kind of business you have a podcast works. If you have a service based business, you can talk about all the things relating to your niche. Or if you've got a product based business, you can talk about everything to do with that. So let's say you have an eyebrow business, and you want to really be deleted in your industry. You can talk about all the things that you post about normally, on a podcast, it's just a longer form of content. You don't have to think, oh my God, I don't know what I'm going to be talking about. It's the to like, think of all your frequently asked questions. Think about how people are engaging with your content and be like, Oh, they always asked me this, or people want to always know how I do this. And it's like, that's how you tell them. That's how you create your content. Because a lot of the time, even in general content creation, not just podcasts, you go off things people want to know, right? You go off your frequently asked questions, you go off things that people ask about your packages about your services, like it's just that but in a longer form. And you talking to them directly, is going to build that personal branding and your brand awareness because people are going to associate you with your brand. So that's why I called mine good chats because obviously there's a good chat anyway. But my brand is called good chat media. And it has to do with podcasting. So it makes sense for us to have a podcast, but I haven't before this. So I understand that it's a challenge to get started. It's a challenge to be like, Shit, I actually got to do this. I actually gotta do a podcast, but it's so exciting and the amount of people that you can talk to while you do it. You're learning so much even just being the producer.

I listened to so many podcasts I learned so many things that I just like might in the background writing notes like implementing things that they're talking about. Because the people that I work with A genius, I love them. And they are wonderful at what they do. There's two more things that are very important. The first being repurposing. Having a podcast is a master form of content, you can repurpose this podcast over and over and over again. So repurposing. Repurposing is basically just recycling your content, taking small bits of it and putting it on to other platforms. The first thing to think about with this when you are thinking about repurposing your content is thinking about where your audience is currently engaged. If they're engaged on Instagram, start there. You can use video, you can make real so you can make static posts, you can make quote posts, you can make audio grammes, you can make reels you can make, like so much.

You can go live and talk about the episode, you can jump on your stories and be like, hey, so this is what we talked about today. Come have a chat, come over look, so many things. But the point is, think about where they are before taking these examples. So from this podcast episode, I'm gonna put the video on YouTube, I'm going to be creating a blog style post on my website. I do have other blog posts with like lots of tips on my website. But I'm more I'm going to repurpose in the way for SEO on a blog post so that you can go on, play the embedded player, and it's got all the show notes and a transcription of the episode on there. And then I might put some on. Tick tock, I love tick tock, or reals. But otherwise, you can do it. If Facebook is your place to be if you've got a Facebook group that's really engaged, jump in their Facebook group and start you can go live again go live, you can cut the video up and have like the takeaways of the episode, which makes people enticed to go and listen to the full episode. Or you can use your favourite moments like funny quotes or like something that you can't stop laughing at or like an inspirational moment that you know you've got the fields in for your community to watch. So there's lots of ways that you can repurpose the podcast is what I'm getting at. Clearly love a good chat. Let's move on.

The last one, as I was saying, podcasting is actually very easy. I know it doesn't seem like it. How do you get it up onto the platforms? How do you make it easy? And I love making things easy. I am total millennial, I'll find the better way to do something by making it easy and more efficient. Every time. I would say one of the biggest questions that I get is how to start and like what do I need. And in that, I would say you need four things. The first one being headphones, you need headphones that plug into your jack mine plugs into my microphone blew through that and your headphones are really important, if not the most important thing so you can hear exactly how the recording sounds and change anything. That sounds a little strange. So I have edited podcasts where the guest of my podcast client is banging around on the table while they're speaking. But if you've got headphones on you can hear when someone else is doing it as well. So headphones are really important. The next one is a microphone. Now you do not have to buy a fancy dancy microphone I am using the RODE NT USB microphone. I love it because it's so easy to set up. It is just plugged straight into the computer through USB. And then it just it's easy. The switches are easy. The setup is easy. There's two different types of microphones you can use. One is called a condenser microphone and one is called a dynamic microphone. Condenser microphones are more sensitive so they pick up other sounds. But if you're recording at home, a dynamic microphone is better because it doesn't pick up all of the background noise as much. It doesn't pick up any of those sounds as bad as a condenser mic would or as good sorry, as good as they would. But it's not what we want. And most people will be recording at home if not in a studio. And the studio will have you set up Anyway, so let's focus on what you can do at home to make it easy for you. The next thing is something to record on. So I use a laptop, I use a Mac. And you can record in a few different websites, there is zoom, which I'm using right now, because I use it for my business anyway. So it's fine. There's Zencaster, there's Riverside, I think there's one called megaphone. So there's zoom. There's Zencaster, there's Riverside, and there's some other ones that you can do, they all basically do the same thing. Zoom is only used for meeting so it's not the greatest. But if you want to set up your Zencastor or your riboside, they are great platforms to use. They are paid. And the only reason that I didn't go with them is just because with my workflows, currently I use Zoom, and it's connected to everything. And I already pay for a zoom subscription. So I was like, You know what I'm they can have easy for myself, let's just do this. The fourth thing is a plan, you need a plan to start a podcast. And that's where we help a lot of people.

Launching without a plan is like trying to start cooking with no ingredients, or barely any ingredients. You can probably find something in the cupboard, scrounge something together. But it's not going to be great. So building the hype to be great when you start, because what you really need. So I would say definitely a plan. I actually have a free download for you. If you are starting to plan a podcast launch. It is the idea to launch in five easy steps ebook. You can download it on the website. I'll leave a link in the show notes so that you can download it quickly. But you can find so many tips on how to get started, where to put the podcast more tips on repurposing. It's all in there. So I'll leave that link for you. And if there's anything that you want to know about podcasting that you're like, Cass, how do I do this? How do I do that? Message me and I will put it in a podcast episode.
