What Analytics You Should Be Tracking
Want to know what analytics to track to measure your podcast success?
If you missed it, a few weeks back I wrote a blog post How to Measure Podcast Success and I wanted to dive deeper into some of the analytics you should track to measure your podcast success.
If you use a hosting platform like Anchor, BuzzSprout or Libsyn - you'll be able to see how many downloads each episode, what device they're listening on and where in the world your audience is listening from.
Getting this data will help you to create and market engaging content for your show.
Here are my suggestions for the podcast analytics you should be tracking:
Unique Listens - there is a difference between unique and total listens. The total number includes someone listening multiple times whereas unique are separate people.
Time and Day - what day and time is your audience listening to your podcast. Could you get a bigger audience if you released the episode on a different day?
Demographic and Location - if you are wanting to host live events or pitch to local brands for sponsorship opportunities.
Device type - if you use a platform like Youtube or Facebook, or even Spotify - you can easily create additional content like video podcasting.
Audience Engagement - do listeners drop off? Do they skip your intro or ads?
Studies show 35% of listener retention drops off in the first five minutes, so make sure that hook is catchy!
Website Traffic - the aim of the game is to get everyone onto your website, so check out your website analytics to see how many listeners are coming to your website for your podcast.
If you're over running the post-production of your podcast by yourself and you're ready to get some time back in your life, you can book a quick chat with me here.
